Dark Encounter

On Advantage

Outside, the fog lays thick

Grey and immobile

Figures disappear in the depth

I walk alone, and there's no shadow on the sidewalk

And the light from your window only illuminates the frame

I see your figure translucent in this nightlight

You don't even know I'm here

Watching your every move

Like some detective in a cheap paper back novel

Time fades

The darkness grows, the night becomes even stiller

You're alone completely

I know you know I'm waiting

It's only a matter of moments

Before terror strikes your heart

And I'm back

You thought you'd never see this face again

Unshaven in a crumpled black suit

A suitcase and an old timetable of trains

And all my worldly possessions clutched in my hands

In here it's warm

The lights are soft

I see the picture on the table of the other man

And your clothes strewn around the room

I stand holding my breath

I can hear you in the next room

Talking on the telephone

The door opens and you stand transfixed in terror

At the sight of this man

His eyes burn with a soul who's lost his power

To exist on any normal plane

Your love, the way it was

The times you shared

Pass before you in a daze

He doesn't speak a word

In this silent hypnotic trance

You feel the void open in your stomach

This is a nightmare from which you never wake

You had it coming

It was only a matter of time

And through your tear stained eyes

You see the hair cut close in the nape of his neck

That black hair which turned you on now turns you off

The telephone rings

It fades

And eternity begins
