Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs
In recording Shhh!, the group tried to get the rights to sample Abba’s “Money Money Money”. Abba refused to grant the rights to the group; this line is included as a jab at the group.
Chumbawamba managed to sample the song anyway: on “Snip Snip Snip”, the organ that plays after the first verse has the same melody; it’s brief enough that the group was able to do it without permission.
These lyrics point out that musicians who sample are no less original than the Beatles and the Rolling Stones: both of those artists “borrowed” concepts, arrangements, and sometimes whole songs from African-American performers, like Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. Despite this, the groups are lauded, whereas recent artists are criticized.
