From a song that snuck inside my momma's head

She went dancing

At the corner store

And all the men there smoking cigarettes wished they were living 'stead of dead

And then one walked right over

She smiled he was alright

He said hey darling

Will you dance with me tonight

She said no

And went on twirling out the door

And all the men laughed with those cigarettes in their teeth

So he picked himself up

Spat his drink, came to

He stumbled out for more

And found her tiptoeing on the yellow lines in the middle of the street

And so he tiptoed after

She smiled he couldn't do it right

He said hey darling

Will you dance with me tonight

She said you're drunk

And she took off through the trees

Leaving nothing behind but the strawberry smell of her hair upon the breeze

That was enough for him

He went after as best he could

But the moon was covered with clouds and she disappeared in the quiet wood

So he sank down slowly

But then there she was

A beautiful wild wind

Upon a horse like sweet St. Joan going to battle for the win

Luckily there were two horses

He catched himself a ride

And asked the horse to go as fast as he could

Till they were racing side by side

And then he leaned on over

She smiled he was doing alright

She said

And pulled over by the shore

She let the horses go

Let her dress fall down so the starlight was all she wore

And then she walked right over
