I stared into the rabbit’s eye

I piled up the dirt

A canopy spreads over me

Sailing away from the earth

The invented horizon is a golden spiral

Everyone who receives a silver medal

Has such a sour face

There’s power in a staged race

Biology betrays me

Digging through medical journals

Figuring out my own treatment

There’s an alternate universe

Where I’m closer to average

I’m desperately reaching

To bridge that gap

I’d rather not constantly

Be anticipating the next flare

I can run on little energy

When it goes further negative

And staying out of bed is insurmountable

I might as well be at death’s edge

I can drag myself out

When there’s roots to grab onto

The forest could be razed

All medications could run out

I’m not sure how much worse

I can persist through on my own

A task insurmountable
