there have been many references of the angel and devil on each shoulder, all through the Internet, going as far to appear in kids cartoons, songs and poems. this idea of having a ‘good’ (angel) and a ‘bad’ (devil) side of an individual. these beings are usually depicted as trying to persuade the individual and sway their decisions. the angel is usually displayed as being moral and good willed and tries to persuade the individual to make a good decision. the devil however, is the polar opposite, they aim to cause havoc and disruption, wanting the individual to give in to their negative thoughts and feelings.

mitchel talks about driving towards the person with ‘devil on his shoulder’ this is an evident implication of him intending to do harm to the person he’s heading towards.

This is basically him killing her,I don’t get why this was annotated as him milling himself (suicide),bc he (Mitchel) literally said “I’ve been in a rage and I’m headed your way with the devil on my fucking shoulders”. Doesn’t this literally mean he is going to her “house” and kill her? This is why the girl is begging him to stop,bc he is hurting her.

He hasn’t blinked because he’s too high or overwhelmed with emotion.

Quentin Tarantino is an American filmmaker, who is also a horror movie writer, Mitchel could be referring to how Tarantino kills love by ruining or destroying romanticism.

Mitchel wants to ensure he gets the message across to the other person.

This line is added on the end to represent an afterthought with him realising that in this position it’s not just about what he can say, but also about what he can do to her with this power.

It carries a dangerous undertone, making the short revelation all the more powerful and unnerving.

It’s up to the listener’s interpretation as to what he’s thinking about doing to her, manifesting a dubious theme and letting the song get as dark as you perceive it.

he doesnt want to hurt her but if its come down to him pulling a trigger off he doesnt have a choice

mitchell states that once he pulls the trigger, he’ll let the bullets talk instead of his own words. in other words: once he commits suicide, as demonstrated in the lyrics above, the act will speak for him.
