I drove across three states and I bought a postcard for a quarter

From an antique store beside a bar I was playing at Fort Wayne, Indiana

I scribbled down some words than you already knew

As if I wrote them down and I put a stamp on it

It would make it more true

Day after day after day

I’ve watched the world take so many things

But it won’t steal our charm

Come here now darling, fill these empty arms

You wake up to the sound of an alarm in a town where everyone knows your name

And wish away the hours of the work week till it isn’t in your way

You call me on the telephone and tell me what I already know

How lucky we both are to have each other between the highs and lows

The lows

Day after day after day

I’ve watched the world take so many things

But it won’t steal our charm

Come here now darling, fill these empty arms

Day after day after day

I’ve watched the world take so many things

But it won’t steal our charm

Come here now darling, fill these empty arms
