[Verse 1]

Afraid to take a step from the doorway into a sunny world

He wonders if he'll become as simple as he's begun to feel from in his hallway

He thinks that he might be done thinking that there's someone out there

Hoping that he is numb enough to no longer care if he's aware

[Chorus]

And he folds his wings without having flown

And tucks them under his sleeves

He seats himself on this cold dark stone

With nothing to believe in

[Verse 2]

A cautious step through the door reminds him there was another time

He knows he's been here before and wonders what is in store if he neglects his longing

But even as it implores, a piece inside him decides to stay

And as he backs through the door into the shadow again he knows he can't pretend

[Chorus]

And he folds his wings without having flown

And tucks them under his sleeves

He seats himself on this cold dark stone

With nothing to believe in

As he sits in the night contemplating his final words

Something brilliantly white comes along to ignite the deepest light inside him

Staring into the sight of this he must concede

His desire for flight was just a fantasy he doesn't need

[Outro]

And he folds his wings without having flown

And tucks them under his sleeves

He meets himself after having known

All the ways he deceives himself

He stands and leaves his lonely stone

With simple steps on his beak
