A pinnacle is the highest point achievable. In terms of success and personal confidence, Jillian is at the peak of her being right now. She can tell that this person who has re-entered her life is responding to that more than her actual self, possibly because of their history. “I don’t see miracles” implies that Jillian knows this person, and doesn’t expect them to have changed.

Jillian uses a few sparing words to craft a metaphor for an obviously “fake” person who is only interested in her fame. They’re “material,” meaning materialistic and grasping, but combined with that “chemical smell,” the overall imagery evokes that pungently artificial odor of chemical additives lingering on new clothes.

Koowlu, koowlu, koowlu, koowluuu

Following the water metaphors that Jillian has used in other songs like “Warm Water,” “Drowning, and “Better,” Banks tells us here that she’s been talking to her darker side.

In a tweet from August 4th, 2017, Jillian explains that the lyric “I’ve been getting messages from my deep waters” refers to her subconscious thoughts while half-asleep.

Banks stated on her twitter that this was an album that helped her heal.

She opens the song by recognizing that she started all the wars; all these battles and internal conflicts she has are her own fault.

Banks' past is her ghost, and constant reminders of her past follower her everywhere.

Often, when someone looks at their past, they tend to change some memories around to make them seem not as bad as they really were. But Banks' memories don’t even try to do this. Instead of being creative and disguising themselves, Banks is well too familiar with her past, and the idea that her past is something to laugh at is funny in itself.
