[Verse 1]

Woke up this morning, wasn't expecting the day off

Unexpectedly found out I was laid off

Suddenly I’ve got feelings of despair

Can't go to work cause of an eccentric billionaire

He only cares about talking down to detractors

Barely makes sense with 280 characters

Don't even have to get my things from my office

Work-from-home made it easy for them to toss us

Been in the same place for the last six years

For the last three of those I’ve had the same exact set of peers

My phone starts buzzin' and my texts go crazy

Meta and Amazon layoffs, is my wife next? Maybe…

I start shaking, wearing my heart on my sleeve

I literally just got back from my paternity leave

Stock market drops, there goes my 401k

I don't see how things could possibly get any worse today…

Step back and I take a deep breath

Got my family, got my health, so much left

Thinking what will I do next when suddenly

See my former mentor on my iPhone, she's ringing me

She saw my post about my situation

She's got a perfect spot on her team where I would fit right in

Should've realized there'd be an opportunity

I wish I could say it's different, but layoffs they ain’t new to me

[Verse 2]

Gotta move forward because we can’t hit rewind

Remember there's an army of people supporting from behind

You never know whose path you might have crossed

That will be the one to pull you from the dark when you’re lost

No matter the pickle you're in you've gotta deal

Remember that nobody has your exact unique skills

Believe me when I say that way back when

If I hadn't been laid off I wouldn’t be at LinkedIn

Sometimes life works out in the strangest ways

Just take this hit on the chin and don't be dazed

And to these companies imploding, it's after the fashion

I understand the need to lay off, but please do it with compassion

Do it right, former employees will still have reverence

No matter the job give adequate severance

And when you do it, have the nerve to do it in-person

And try to remember that you're dealin' with a person

On that note you should be more givin' than Oprah

There shouldn't even be a discussion about COBRA

Any remaining shares should get a full vesting

To you it's basically pennies but to these families it's a blessing

Just remember y'all we'll get through this together

Bad times clear up just like the bad weather

Just remember when you need me I can lean in
