[Verse 1]

I miss the days of old, when all that glittered was gold

Summer to winter to fall, out I would go, and play in the cold

Drinking water from a hose, looking back, I know it was gross

I still wouldn't change any of it though, in fact I'd do it some mo'

Now all the color has faded, nature looks desaturated

Now I'm winter, cold and jaded, and I'm going through changes

Wish I would've appreciated those days when I made em

Guess it is really true the sayin, you don't know what you've lost till you waste it

Maybe that's why I'm still holding onto everything that I had wrote then

Its almost like it's a token, reminding me of when I was hopin

Back bеfore I got so broken, fore thе world chewed me up in its throat and

Spit me out as the man I am, hopeless, they took my happiness and then they broke it

And I'm not the only one, most of my peers have a similar story

Is this what we label maturing, realizing everything's rooted in hurting?

And I know that I'm still sorting it out, what path to take, where'm I turning

But there's no way I can forsee it so I'ma try my best not to worry

[Chorus]

I miss when it was simplistic

Back when nothing felt this twisted

I miss when it was simplistic

Back when pain never existed

[Verse 2]

I still sometimes reminisce, I look at my old drawings, shit

This really is making me miss all of the times that I had as a kid

Though my childhood was a mess, somehow still there's a feeling of bliss

When I think back then I wish, that I could relive it again

Though I lose myself in my dreams, I have to snap back to reality

Look around me, what do I see, remnants of when I lived happily

Things aren't as bad as they seem, everything's worse as a teen

I wanna go back to sleep, and wake up again when I'm finally free

And I have my own place, getting through high school is feeling a waste

I'm so tired of the wait, wanna get up and get out and escape

Only so much I can take, keep adding pressure and soon I'ma break

Freedoms a long ways away, but it'll be worth it to see my kid's face

The reason I'll never give up, it comes from genuine love

For the girl that I trust more than I trust any damn God up above

Though things right now are tough, and the way I was raised was rough

I'ma look back on this track when I'm watching my children grow up

[Chorus]

I miss when it was simplistic

Back when nothing felt this twisted

I miss when it was simplistic

Back when pain never existed
