[Verse 1]

A couple decades later now I finally get it

Early twenties in college it was hitting different

When I started this music, no one would ever listen

Except my family, they the reason for my ambition

I remember in back time like when I was seven

Too young to understand the tragedy of 9/11

How many families lost, how many lives damaged

Like in the blink of an eye 3K lives vanished

Like I should’ve praised God and said thank you more

How my family was spared from that act of war

So many lives destroyed, mine was safe at home

God I’m grateful, thank you I’m not here alone

Raised in Modesto, west coast, the 2-0-9

High-level assault and mid-level crime

Another way I was blessed, no one around me died

A lot schools had shootings but no shooters at mine

[Chorus]

American dream but so many suicides

Families torn apart day n’ night

It’s not pretty, but hey at least we tried

Protect the ones you love and hold 'em tight

No TV to help to pass the time

Anxiety, leaving us paralyzed

The world is asking where are you, God?

This problem we have is bigger than you and I

Instead of pray, we postin' online

A green screen, we living a fake life

We know the place but park on the wrong side

A green screen, it’s not what it looks like

Verse 2:

I’m no stranger to mental illness

And if say you understand I won’t take you serious

Mental breakdowns in public, you can’t relate

And respectfully you don’t know 'cuz you know my name

Depression's real, that’s the message I convey

It’s like a stubborn overcast, everyday is gray

Some of us see our arms and we slice away

You got an answer? Please go ahead fill in the black

Look around you, to be yourself, we don’t know how to

What made you change your beliefs?

When did you change your values?

Likes, comments, and views will live on without you

You got no friends 'cuz ya cut off the people around you

It’s hard to love and appreciate while you still have it

It’s only when we lose it, where we all panic

The one’s closest, really the hardest ones to manage

But the pain is worth it, even though it’s traumatic

Almost half of married couples will end in divorce

And that ain't a percentage that we ought to ignore

We were supposed to be better than the rest of the world

We were tempted and we failed, now let’s fight this war

[Chorus]

American dream but so many suicides

Families torn apart day n’ night

It’s not pretty, but hey at least we tried

Protect the ones you love and hold 'em tight

No TV to help to pass the time

Anxiety, leaving us paralyzed

The world is asking where are you, God?

This problem we have is bigger than you and I

Instead of pray, we postin' online

A green screen, we living a fake life

We know the place but park on the wrong side

A green screen, it’s not what it looks like

[Verse 3]

And we got therapy available now, but I got problems even professionals can’t figure out dark secrets locked away and I ain’t letting 'em out

Was on my knees now I’m flat on the ground

God I’m down for the count

Don’t mean shadow the good, just being honest with you

Times are different, it’s okay to acknowledge the truth

Turn off the green screen, and while you're at hit the lights too

I'm trusting y’all will make the right move

[Chorus]

American dream but so many suicides

Families torn apart day n’ night

It’s not pretty, but hey at least we tried

Protect the ones you love and hold 'em tight

No TV to help to pass the time

Anxiety, leaving us paralyzed

The world is asking where are you, God?

Where are you, God?

Where are you, God?

[Chorus]

American dream but so many suicides

Families torn apart day n’ night

It’s not pretty, but hey at least we tried

Protect the ones you love and hold 'em tight

No TV to help to pass the time

Anxiety, leaving us paralyzed

The world is asking where are you, God?
