I saw another photograph of you
At another bar or somewhere new
And I told myself to stay off of the phone
But everyone else is monotone
I had convinced myself that you weren't around
And that you didn't remember me
And now I'm wishing I had never let go
But the truth is, I never did
I just made a stupid decision
Influenced by clouded vision
But it feels like I could wait forever
If one day we could be together
Cause it feels like I could wait forever
And we were always birds of a feather
Now it kind of hurts to know that you're not alone
Some nights I wish I could just turn to stone
Time is no stranger to you and me
These eight years have felt like eternity
I used to think I had it figured out
But I was the one who let you down
And I wait, and I wait, and I wait for you
But it feels like I could wait forever
If one day we could be together
Cause it feels like I could wait forever
And we were always birds of a feather
You know I swear I died and went to heaven
My heart skipped a beat and turned to eleven
But I swear, I swear, I'd wait forever
Cause one day we could be together
I don’t often do specific references in my lyrics like this, but here I felt compelled to.
I’m very good at telling myself things that I think might make coping easier.
This song represents me as the hopeless romantic I am. Whilst waiting forever for someone is impractical, it’s the feeling I wanted to capture, rather something I wanted to do.
I started writing this song after seeing the photo referenced here.
Whenever I’m stuck inside and on my own, I tend to pick up my phone and do the whole routine checking social media everyone does. It’s so unhealthy and can drive you mad.
This is definitely one of the darkest lyrics I’ve ever written. I’d been to some pretty low places whilst writing this EP.
Remembering an experience that filled you with pure elation was something I wanted to put in the EP’s closing moments, to end on a hopeful tone that is more reflective of who I am now.
