[Verse 1]
Mustard yellow leaves in the wake of spring
Weedy, bristled branches casting shadows on a primrose dim
Solid stature
Grown so high
[Verse 2]
Inhaled too much carbon from the atmosphere
In such a short space of years
Don’t know when it’ll go
But it’ll try to go solo
Trying not to root and rupture the forest
And stunt their own growth
[Chorus]
Creaking and cracking
Bird's eye-view
Onlookers gasp
Unsure of what to do
We fall down
We fall down
We fall down
We fall down
[Verse 3]
Whether sawn or mother nature’s watch
His crown shyness, forces it free
Back to where they placed their seed
From the ground up
[Chorus]
Creaking and cracking
Bird's eye-view
Onlookers gasp
Unsure of what to do
We fall down
We fall down
We fall down
We fall down
[Bridge]
Harsh winter whimpers against the zealous green
Quivering and oscillating in the inept terrene
We were made to grow
Made to stand
Created to overlook the land
But we fall down
[Chorus]
Creaking and cracking
Bird's eye-view
Onlookers gasp
Unsure of what to do
We fall down
We fall down
We fall down
[Outro]
We fall down
We fall down
We fall down
We fall down
We fall down
We fall down
We fall down
Creaking and cracking
Bird's eye-view
I think we can become consumed with jealousy, envy and fear when we see others making that mark or doing something we haven’t done ourselves. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that everyone is different and not everybody’s paths are carved out the same way, nor will they reach the same destinations.
This imagery stems from the idea that we don’t know how much time we really have. Be it by nature or by our own devices. I didn’t always prioritise my own needs but since I have, I have been much happier for it.
In a now social media dominant world, we witness and consume so much of others. These things we see are put through a filter where we only are presented the best. This can be quite hazardous because at times we can take this depiction as a complete representation of people’s lives. We believe that everything we do ourselves does not compare to everyone else.
There is such a pressure from society that we have to live our lives in a certain, conventional way. But to me, a lot of us are just trying figure it all out and hope we are accepted for it.
