same as the beginning but with the knowledge of the lyrics after, you can see that the narrator desperately wants to show their sadness. from the lines above you can infer that they find comfort in the sadness because it’s been there for such a long time, it’s just become the norm. the person making them “sick” is just part of their life… and maybe the narrator wants them to know that they’re not making them any better ORR the narrator just wants comfort in the fact that they’ll know they’re suffering… that’s what i’ve pieced/inferred but every views different!!

i think that someone is causing alex/the singer to feel blue, or depressed. they’ve felt so ‘blue’ for so long that they’ve started to like feeling that way, or whoever is causing them to feel this way is forcing them to like it and be comfortable with it when they’re not.

These lines could be interpreted as the loss of childhood innocence, possibly due to significant and traumatic experiences. The “empty crib” symbolizes the absence of the carefree innocence associated with childhood, while the “dirty gift” may signify the effects of traumatic events or memories.

(In my opinion, this interpretation of the song fits better than the other one, because the following lines “You make me sick, you make like it” wouldn’t really make sense if the speaker suffers from depression alone)

The speaker is depressed but struggles to find a way to express their feelings to an unknown listener.
People with depression typically find it hard to communicate their low mood; this soon snowballs into feelings of isolation and resentment.
