No Dignity

She stands upon the steeples stairs

While men remove her clothes for those who watch in mobs

This place without a soul who cares

Applauds the girl as she looks up and sobs

She looks up and sobs

The tears cascade along her sunless face

And fall beside her bare and bleeding feet

With every step the pure is torn from grace

While people shout and crush her in the street

Her skin is torn as bones reduce to dust

Her name is lost, replaced by “slut” and “whore”

Accused of theft and judged by those who lust

And long to wrap the world in chains once more

She pays the price for laws she did not break

For those in crowns who wish to keep their gold

Deprived of virtues the world would take

As products of the time that justice sold

That justice sold

No dignity to cherish

No honor to be earned

Solidarity will perish

No dignity to cherish

Solidarity will perish

While eyes stay blind and turned

Blind and turned
